This project will accelerate implementing quality initiatives for rectal cancer, including Total Mesorectal Excision (TME) surgery and assessment, multidisciplinary cancer conferences and Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI).

The three quality initiatives have proven to improve clinical outcomes, but their uptake and use varies across Canada. This project will involve eight high-volume Canadian centres and will include surgeons, radiologists, radiation oncologists, medical oncologists and pathologists involved in the care of patients with rectal cancer.

Successful implementation of these quality initiatives will lead to improved rectal cancer care and clinical outcomes for patients, and set a national standard.
