Watch as Donna talks about being diagnosed with breast cancer at the age of 50. The cancer had metastasized (spread) to her lungs. She also describes how she drew on traditional beliefs, ceremonies and medicines to help herself cope with cancer.

Donna passed away in November 2010. She was a daughter, wife, mother and grandmother. She also worked as a historical researcher for Aboriginal land claims in Manitoba.

One of the things with having metastatic cancer is that you come to terms with the fact that you’re going to die, that your physical body is going to die. One of my friends put it best – I am a spirit that has a body, I am not a body with a spirit so that when my physical body gives up, my spirit will move on.
