Organized lung cancer screening programs with low-dose computed tomography (LDCT) have been shown to reduce lung cancer mortality and are now recommended for high-risk individuals. In addition to early detection of lung cancer, an organized lung cancer screening program provides an opportunity to help current smokers quit and to support those who have recently quit.
Using OncoSim-Lung, an analysis was conducted to project the lifetime impact of lung cancer screening in Canada for a cohort of individuals eligible for screening in the next 20 years (2022-2041). The model was used to compare the performance of screening according to different eligibility criteria. The Partnership had conducted modeling analysis to support provinces and territories develop a business case and plan the implementation of organized lung cancer screening.
