Canada will play host to the international cancer community in 2012 when the World Cancer Congress takes place in Montreal, Quebec. With a theme of “Connecting for Global Impact,” the event, to be held August 27 to 30, 2012, will bring together cancer practitioners and system leaders from around the world to learn from other experts, exchange knowledge and best practices, and network.
The fourmain topics to be discussed are prevention and early detection, cancer care and survivorship, palliation and pain control and systems in cancer control.
Jessica Hill, CEO of the Canadian Partnership Against Cancer, is chairing the Canadian Advisory Committee for the event, and Dr. Heather Bryant, the Partnership’s Vice-President of Cancer Control, is Co-Chair of the Programme Committee.
The World Cancer Congress is an initiative of the Union for International Cancer Control (UICC), a global organization dedicated to eliminating cancer as a life-threatening disease. The UICC has more than 400 member organizations across 120 countries. The last congress, held in 2010 in Shenzhen, China, attracted 3,222 participants from 92 countries.
