Ending cervical cancer in Canada is possible

On World Cancer Day 2020, the Partnership hosted a summit of leaders to deliver a shared vision to end cervical cancer in the country with the development of an Action Plan for the Elimination of Cervical Cancer in Canada.

The Partnership is leading the development and implementation of a Canadian plan to reach the World Health Organization (WHO)’s elimination goal in this country. The plan is to reach full HPV vaccination of boys and girls; to move to primary HPV testing plus self-sampling in cervical screening programs and to ensure rigorous follow up when abnormalities are identified. This will advance women’s health and lead to the elimination of cervical cancer by 2040.

The action plan is currently in development with input from experts in HPV immunization and cervical screening, diagnosis and treatment, First Nations, Inuit and Métis leaders and the perspectives of patients and the general public.
